"Education is the cornerstone
of liberty."
Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady and wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, WWI American Red Cross volunteer, activist in the areas of women's, labor, and civil rights. From 1945-1953 she served as the U.S. delegate to the United Nations, drafting the first Universal Declaration of Human Rights, outling how nations and people should treat each other.
Purpose:
To form a coalition of state-wide educators and community members who, through collaboration and a desire to enrich visitors to The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial, will write and produce educational experiences highlighting the ingenuity, sacrifice and commitment of the Greatest Generation in a war that changed the world. These opportunities will challenge and inspire people of all ages to use individual and collective resources to make their communities and the world a better place.
Vision:
Learn from the past to build a better future.
Mission:
Reflecting on the courage, ingenuity, resourcefulness and values of Michigan’s residents as they came together to meet the challenges of World War II, we strive to form students and adults alike to see challenges as opportunities to collaboratively problem solve through use of critical thinking skills, compassion and empathy, affecting positive change in today’s world.
